| Epée |
|
Epée is truly the weapon of duelists.
The entire body of the fencer represents the valid target area. This particularity confers to the épée
some realism regarding what were the conditions of a real duel. Just like with a foil, hits
can only be given with the tip of the blade. An épée weighs approximatively 750g and is 110cm long.
One of the main differences between épée and the other weapons (foil and sabre) is that it is not regulated
by rights of priority. Indeed, none of the two opponents have the obligation to take the priority upon the
other in order to have the right to give a valid hit. This absence of right of priority allows both opponents
to give simultaneous hits, which means that each opponent gain one point.
Since the valid target area is not limited, fencers who practice épée do not have to wear a conductive jacket.
