The Maison de l’Escrime was established in 1961. It is the largest fencing club in Brussels and probably in all Belgium
with over 180 members.

Consequently to its notoriety, its extensive experience, and its location in the very heart of the capital of Europe,
our club benefits from a highly internationalized profile. Indeed, our members are coming from a large range of
countries, spreading from Italy to Finland passing by France, Russia, the United Kingdom or even Hungary. This cultural
diversity positively contributes to the atmosphere of the club and to the overall self-fulfillment of the members,
turning the Maison de l’Escrime into more than an ordinary fencing club.
We fence all 3 weapons, foil, épée and sabre, and welcome fencers from all ages.

The Maison de l’Escrime organizes every year the Verhalle Challenge, which is an international épée team tournament that
attracts every year fencers from all around Europe. Our fencers take part in several competitions nationally and
internationally, giving the club a high visibility, recognition and significant results.
Finally, the Maison de l’Escrime is depositary of the Royal Oath of Saint Michel and Gudule (also known as the Oath of
the Fencers of Brussels), created in 1480, and therefore annually organizes the Tir du Roy and takes part to the
Ommegang parade.
