The « Maison de l’Escrime » was established in 1961.  It is the largest club of Brussels with over 200 members.

Thanks to its history, the quality of its trainers, and its location at the heart of the capital of Europe, the Maison de l’Escrime is a truly international club.  We welcome fencers from all over the World, from Italy to Finland, France to Russia, the UK to Argentina, Venezuela to Singapore etc… This cultural diversity is a strong aspect of the club’s culture.  It contributes strongly to a very pleasant atmosphere, helps our youngsters develop nicely, and makes of the Maison de l’Escrime more than just a simple club.

We practice all 3 weapons: foil, épée and sabre.  Our fencers range today from 7 to 81 years old.  We have international competitive fencers as well as recreational fencers who want just to have fun.

The trainings are spread over 3 sections: one in Watermael-Boitsfort where all 3 weapons are taught,  one in Uccle where you can fence foil or sabre, and a 3rd one in Woluwe Saint-Lambert where you can fence foil or épée.  The club has several external collaborations, such as with the schools of Watermael-Boitsfort, the International School of Brussels, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the European School of Ixelles etc….

We organise each year the Challenge Verhalle, an international épée team competition as well as the Challenge Hulin, an épée mixed team competition.  Our fencers take part to a large range of international competition, helping our club get a strong recognition.

Last but not least, the Maison de l’Escrime is the depository of the « Serment Royal des Saints Michel et Gudule », known as the « Serment des Escrimeurs » or « Oath of the Fencers » that was established in 1480.  We therefore organise every year the Tir du Roy and participate to the Ommegang.
