Modern fencing is a combat sport that can be practiced with three different weapons : foil, épée and sabre, each one of
them having their own particularities.
Historically, fencing had a military vocation and was only accessible for social elites that would sometimes defend
their honor by performing a duel, usually at dawn on the edge of a forest.
Nowadays, although still stigmatized by history, it is not compulsory anymore to be part of the army or the aristocracy
in order to have the right to practice fencing. Fencing has become accessible to anyone, men or women. It is taught in
fencing clubs, supervised by qualified fencing Masters and initiators.
Unfortunately, fencing does not benefit of a large media coverage and is hardly understandable for those who have never
experienced it. It remains however an activity full of surprises and a long standing Olympic discipline. Fencing is also
a sport in evolution. Since the introduction of the electric equipment, the art of fencing went through some significant
development of rhythm and style.
